What is hyaluronic acid?

L’acide hyaluronique est depuis quelques années la molécule star des soins anti-âge. Elle comble les rides et offre une seconde jeunesse à la peau.

Applied as a topical treatment or taken as a supplement to the diet, this natural substance helps to rebalance the skin's moisture level to make it fresher and fuller.

So what is hyaluronic acid technically?

What exactly is hyaluronic acid?

Naturally synthesized by the body, hyaluronic acid (HA), also known as hyaluronate, is a major and essential component of the skin, guaranteeing its smooth, plump appearance.

Hyaluronic acid captures and binds water like a sponge: it is said to have hygroscopic properties thanks to its ability to attract and retain almost a thousand times its weight in water. It plays a vital role in plumping the skin deep down, smoothing its surface and giving it a more rested, younger, fresher look.

There are several different hyaluronic acids, differentiated by their size - or molecular weight - and by their actions. Hyaluronic acid molecules vary in size depending on their location in the skin.

  • Low molecular weight hyaluronic acids (below 300 kDa) have a smoothing action.
  • Hyaluronic acids with a medium molecular weight (300 to 1800 kDa) have a strong hydrating power.
  • High molecular weight hyaluronic acids (> 1800 kDa) promote cell regeneration.

Hyaluronic acid can attract and retain almost a thousand times its weight in water.

From the age of 25, the natural secretion of hyaluronic acid diminishes. As a result, skin becomes increasingly dehydrated, fragile and sensitive. Gradually, tissue slackens, the face deepens and the first wrinkles appear.

This imbalance worsens with menopause, but also with factors such as pollution, smoking, ultra-violet rays and diet...

Topical or oral route?

Hyaluronic acid is present in a wide range of skin care products. In cream, serum or mask form, topical use of this active ingredient creates a protective barrier on the skin's surface to prevent dehydration.

These products generally contain high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid and are formulated to retain water on the epidermal surface. They are effective in smoothing and moisturizing the skin.

Topical treatments based on hyaluronic acid cannot penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, so their action is limited.

For a more effective and lasting inner action, it is possible to takehyaluronic acid in oral form. It is recommended to complement the action of creams, which act on the surface layer of the skin, with nutritional supplements that reinforce and complete their action from the inside.

Taking HA orally allows a considerable and lasting increase in the stocks of hyaluronic acid in the dermis, the deep layer of the skin where it is synthesised.

While hyaluronic acid is best known for its moisturizing action, which helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, its benefits go even further when taken orally.

As an internal treatment, it repairs and restructures the skin's dermis, the thickest layer of the skin that ensures its strength and elasticity. This active ingredient not only promotes skin radiance, elasticity and youthfulness, but also helps the body as a whole to fight oxidative stress and ageing.

Hyaluronic acid also strengthens joints and all the connective tissues that surround them, such as cartilage.

Absolu Hyaluronic: an innovation from biotechnology

The Hyaluronic Absolute is a new generation formula from the biotechnology with a broad spectrum of hyaluronic acids of different molecular weights to perfectly meet the physiological needs of the skin.

Its spectrum ranges from 50 kDa to 3000 kDa and has a high level of absorption proven by clinical studies. It has been obtained by biotechnological fermentation, a natural and vegan synthesis technique which consists in using micro-organisms for the synthesis of molecules of interest.

Biofermentation has been programmed according to a specific fractionation process in order to obtain a spectrum of hyaluronic acids of similar molecular weight to those found naturally in the skin. This biotechnological process avoids the use of animal derivatives in food supplements.

Its production is also part of the No Impact in Progressprogram, which guarantees an eco-sustainable and ethical production process that respects the fundamental values of man and nature, notably through the use of renewable raw materials.

The effectiveness of Absolute Hyaluronic was tested by clinical study and its intestinal absorption has been scientifically proven.

All the hyaluronic acids in this spectrum will penetrate skin tissue to :

  • Stimulate the endogenous synthesis of hyaluronic acid and increase the level of hyaluronic acid in the blood from 7 days to +40.3% after 28 days
  • Reduce the volume and depth of wrinkles by an average of 17.6% and 18.8%.
  • Improve skin elasticity and hydration by an average of 3.8% and 10.6

Natural, vegan and effective, Absolu Hyaluronic leaves the skin more hydrated, plump, supple and visibly less marked.
