Bloated belly: the foods responsible

A feeling of heaviness, a swollen belly, a hard stomach, bloating, pain... These digestive problems can be difficult to live with on a daily basis. Find out what can cause them by implementing an anti-swelling strategy!

The causes

  • Healthy living

The first cause of bloating is a poor diet (too fatty, too sweet, too salty, alcohol, fizzy drinks) which can lead to digestive problems. Indeed, these foods will irritate the digestive system and cause bloating.

Some "healthy" foods can also cause bloating, as they ferment in the stomach, as in the case of cabbage (broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts), raw vegetables and dairy products. Fermentation takes place in the intestine and aims to destroy dietary fiber. The problem is that this leads to the production of intestinal gas, causing bloating and flatulence. The two are often linked.

Other possible causes of a swollen belly are

  • Stress
  • Medical treatment
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Premenstrual syndrome

Anti-ballooning reflexes

  • It is important to eat meals at a regular pace, in a calm environment and with good chewing. Allow at least two hours between the last meal and bedtime to allow digestion to take place in good conditions.
  • Prefer cooked vegetables, high-fibre foods and whole grains
  • Drink water regularly, but not with meals. Prefer mineral waters rich in magnesium for their mild laxative effect.
  • Practise regular physical activity; sport stimulates the muscles of the abdominal belt and thus promotes digestion and transit.

Natural solutions for a swollen belly

The microbiota to the rescue of our belly

Our diet is the best way to protect this microbiome.

To combat bad bacteria, we use foods that are usually derived from live bacteria used for fermentation, such as those that enable the production of kefir, suppress growth or stimulate the system.

We can also support the growth of good bacteria by eating 'prebiotics', which are produced from dietary fibres such as those found in vegetables like chicory root or Jerusalem artichokes.

Prebiotics and probiotics can be used together, both are particularly effective against digestive disorders.

At D-LAB NUTRICOSMETICS, we offerAbsolu Probiopure which will rebalance the intestinal microbiota, promote digestive comfort, improve skin quality and stimulate the immune system.

We recommend a cure over several months in order to allow the good bacteria to colonise your intestine and intervene on the different problems you are facing. This will allow good digestion, good assimilation of nutrients, and will considerably reduce intestinal disorders and feelings of bloating.

Essential oils

To soothe the stomach at the end of each meal and facilitate digestion, consider essential oils that are beneficial to the digestive system, such aspeppermint, lemon or cardamomessential oils.

Occasionally, to help digestion, take one or two drops after a meal on a neutral tablet, sugar or in a teaspoon of vegetable oil or honey.

Foods to reduce belly fat

As we have seen above, certain foods should be avoided to limit digestive problems, but others, on the other hand, are capable of reducing feelings of bloating. Such is the case with aromatic herbs (chives, parsley, thyme, oregano...) and fruit, which, thanks to their high water and fiber content, have a diuretic effect and improve transit. They are best used fresh, but dried herbs are also effective.

Carminative plants such as fennel, cumin and coriander absorb intestinal gas. They can be eaten in seed or herbal tea form.

Bicarbonate of soda

Baking soda is a classic grandmother's remedy to have in your medicine cabinet! It is very effective for reduce digestive disordersTake one tablespoon diluted in a glass of water before a meal. This remedy is not recommended for people with kidney or heart problems.

Tea & herbal teas

Drinking tea and herbal teas is good for the body thanks to their diuretic action. They enable the kidneys to function properly and to limit water retention.

In addition, green tea speeds up transit!

Green tea is most often recommended because it is unfermented and rich in polyphenols and antioxidants. For herbal teas, we advise you either to make your own mixture or to use special digestive teas.

Mint is known to soothe bloating, mallow to reduce digestive pain, and aniseed to regulate slow transits.

Replace your coffee with tea or herbal teas to improve digestion.
